Family:  Veneridae (venus clams)
Max. size:  6 cm SHL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 183 m
Distribution:  Northeast Atlantic and the Mediterranean: from the British coasts and Norway to Mediterranean and north-west Africa (Morocco). Temperate to subtropical. (Refs. 2736, 2844).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Maximum depth range from Ref. 121863. Found in the coast on sandy beaches. Inhabits gravel to muddy sand, intertidal to a depth of 183 m (Ref. 121863), shallowly buried (Ref. 121870). Also found in a lagoon (Ref. 121876) and in maerl beds in Brittany (Ref. 112062).
