Family:  Spongiidae ()
Max. size:  20 cm DL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  sessile; marine; depth range 1 - 85 m
Distribution:  Mediterranean: mostly eastern basin.
Diagnosis:  Sponge of massive form or more often out of thick blade. Osculus a few mm in diameter, dispersed. Primary fibers: 0.005 - 0.007 cm diameter, deprived of marrow and foreign bodies. Secondary fibers: 0.003 - 0.004 cm diameter.
Biology:  Maximum depth from Ref. 125945. Maximum size: 20 cm. Importance: exploited in small quantities, mainly in Tunisia (Ref. 363).
