Definition of Term

fish
(English) Literally, a vertebrate (animal with a backbone) that has gills and lives in water, but generally used more broadly to include any harvestable animal living in water. Fishes refers to more than one type of fish; finfish refers to sharks, some rays and bony fishes, and scalefish refers to fish bearing scales. (See also: finfish, elasmobranchs, bony fishes)
poisson
(French) Littéralement, un vertébré (animal avec une colonne vertébrale) qui a des lamelles et vit dans l'eau, mais généralement utilisé pour inclure plus largement tout animal récoltable qui vit dans l'eau. Le terme poisson fait référence à plus qu'un type de poisson, aux requins, quelques raies et poissons osseux, et le terme poisson aux écailles se reporte aux poissons qui ont des écailles.
