Fertilized eggs develop into swimming trochophores within 12 hrs, and into shelled veligers within 36 hrs. Larval stage live for 5 to 15 days maximum, depending on its lipid reserves of the egg, feeding availability and temperature. At the end of the larval stage, it develops a foot (pediveliger) where it then settles onto the substratum.
