foramen magnum
(english) On the neurocranium, the 'great hole' or posteromedial aperture through the occiput into the cranial cavity, above the occipital centrum and medial and usually dorsal to the occipital condyles. The spinal cord passes from the brain through the foramen magnum into the neural canal of the vertebral column. (See also: foramen, neurocranium)
