Definition of Term

harpooning
(English) A surface method of fishing that requires considerable effort in locating and chasing individual fish. Harpoons are hand-held or fired from a harpoon gun aimed at individual, high-valued fish, such as giant tuna or swordfish. (See also: harpoon, artisanal fisheries)
harponner
(French) Méthode de pêche de surface qui exige un effort considérable pour localiser et chasser les poissons. Les harpons sont tenus à la main ou sont tirés d'un canon en visant le poisson-cible, poisson de haute valeur, tel que le thon rouge ou le poisson-épée. (See also: harpoon, artisanal fisheries)
