Eastern Pacific: USA and Canada. Temperate to subtropical.
It is found on rocks, in beds of surf grass from low intertidal to a depth of 10 meters (Ref. 865). Members of the class Ascidiacea are hermaphroditic; both cross- and self-fertilization is typical. Life cycle: Eggs develop into lecithotrophic larva before metamorphosing into benthic adults (Ref. 833).
