Reef dwelling and also found in mangrove ponds (Ref. 1757); occurs on the reef, often in rock crevices in shallow water, where it is fully exposed to bright illumination (Ref. 1758). Members of the class Ascidiacea are hermaphroditic; both cross- and self-fertilization is typical. Life cycle: Eggs develop into lecithotrophic larva before metamorphosing into benthic adults (Ref. 833).
