Reef building, found on gravel and rock substrates, i.e., glacial till ridges (Ref. 92818) at depths between 90 m to 300 m (Ref. 92819). Members of the class Hexactinellida are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into trichimella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge (Ref. 833).
