Occurs in sandy areas and seagrass beds at depths of 5 to 20 m (Ref. 800). In shallow waters with macroalgae (Ref. 82802). Feeds on sponge (Ref. 800). Members of the class Asteroidea exhibit both asexual (regeneration and clonal) and sexual (gonochoric) means of reproduction. Life cycle: Embryos hatch into planktonic larvae and later metamorphose into pentamorous juveniles which develop into young sea stars with stubby arms (Ref. 833).
