This species is found on rocky substrates on lower side of large boulders from intertidal to a depth of 16 m. It is known to withstand strong surf and wave exposure. It is often seen with decapod crab Allopetrolisthes spinifrons clinging to column (Ref. 87801). It has separate sexes. Longitudinal fission may lead to large clonal aggregations (Ref. 87801).
