Climate / Range
Thickly encrusting with smooth surface. Texture is soft, fleshy and compressible; easy to tear. Reddish brown color; brighter and darker at the ectosome.
Known from depths between 5 to 17 m. Encrusts empty bivalve shells and coral rubbles (Ref. 84985). Filter-feeder (Ref. 68823). Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge (Ref. 833).
