Southern Pacific, Southern Atlantic and Antarctic Atlantic.
It is found on all kinds of hard substrates, but is common in lower red algae zone and feeds on red and green algae. It also has a good tolerance for salinity fluctuations and low salinity with values of 15 to 22 psu (Ref. 87801). Members of the class Polyplacophora are mostly gonochoric. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into lecitotrophic planktonic trocophore larvae (no veliger stage) which later metamorphose and settle on the bottom as young adults (Ref. 833).
