Indo-Pacific: from East Africa to western Polynesia, north to Japan and south to Queensland.
Occasionally used as food by coastal populations in the Southeast Asian region (Ref. 349). Found on shore rocks at about the mid-tide line (Ref. 799). Grazers (Ref. 99836). Simultaneous hermaphrodites (Ref. 833) and monaulic (Ref. 99836). It displays poecilogonony as its reproductive strategy (Ref. 99837).
