Max. size:  50 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 20 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: throughout the Caribbean.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Minimum depth from Ref. 83942. This is an epibenthic, subtidal species found on seagrass (Ref. 83942), coral reefs (Ref. 111335), and inhabits shallow areas near mangroves (Ref. 415), or in grassy or muddy sand (Ref. 86832).

Country info:  Known from Glover's Reef Atoll (Ref. 85586), Belize Barrier Reef in the vicinity of Carrie Bow Cay, Elbow Cay, Northeast Cay, Fisherman's Cay, Manatee Cay, Manatee Cay shoal, Little Cat Cay, northernmost of the Lagoon Cays, Quamino Cay. Identification of this species in Tarpum Cay is questionable (Ref. 86570, 86832). C: Refs. 85586, 86570, 83942.
