Definition of Term

Kingdom Fungi
(English) Eukaryotic, heterotrophic organisms. They cannot photosynthesize and so obtain nourishment either through saprotrophic or parasitic means. The body form of the larger fungi typically consists of thread-like hyphae and a compacted mass or mycelium. Unicellular forms (e.g. yeasts) also exist. Cell walls are made of chitin, not cellulose, and motile cells are never found, i.e. they lack undulipodia (cilia and flagella). Fungi reproduce by forming spores produced sexually and asexually.
