Definition of Term

acrodont
(English) Type of tooth ankylosed to the jaw along the midline of the jawbone, rather than to the inner edge, the condition in most fishes. Attachment is by connective collagenous tissue with impregnated calcium salts and, in maxillary and madibular teeth, by a bony piece between the tooth and the bone. (See also: teeth, maxillary)
