Definition of Term

amplitude
(English) The magnitude or half-cycle displacement of a wavelike fluctuation as measured from its mean or equilibrium value. The amplitude of an ocean wave is half its trough-to-crest height, or the height from the still water level to the wave crest (in the case of the tide, amplitude equals half the range).
