Definition of Term

freshwater
(English) In a broad sense 'freshwater' is used for all continental aquatic systems such as rivers and lakes. In a technical sense it refers to water with less than 0.5 grams per liter of total dissolved mineral salts. (See also: brackish water, salinity, saltwater)
eau douce
(French) Dans un sens général 'eau douce' est utilisé pour tout les systèmes aquatiques continentaux tel que rivières et lacs. Dans un sens technique il se reporte aux eaux qui contient moins de 0.5 grammes par litre des sels minéraux dissous totaux. (See also: brackish water, salinity, saltwater)
água doce
(Portuguese) Em sentido lato "água-doce" significa sistemas aquáticos continentais tais como rios e lagos. Tecnicamente, designa águas com menos de 0.5 gr por litro de sais minerais dissolvidos. (See also: brackish water, salinity, saltwater)
