Definition of Term

yolk-sac larva
(English) A fish larvae which has already hatched from the egg but has not started feeding yet and still absorbs the yolk in the ventrally attached sac. At the end of the yolk-sac stage the yolk and oil globule(s) have been used up and the major organ and sensory systems required to capture prey are functional. The mouth and gut have formed, the anus is open at the margin of the ventral finfold, the eyes are pigmented, and the primordial pectoral fins are present. (See also: yolk sac, larvae, LarvalBase)

(French) Alevin de poisson éclos mais ne s'alimente pas et absorbe encore le vitellus dans le sac ventralement attaché. A la fin du stade du sac vitellin le vitellus et les globules d'huile ont été utilisés; l'organe principale et les systèmes sensoriels éxigés pour la capture de proie sont fonctionnels. La bouche et tube digestif sont formés, l'anus est ouvert à la marge du pli de nageoire ventral, les yeux sont pigmentés, et les nageoires pectorales primordiales sont présentes.
