Short description Morphology

Calyx conical to pyramidal, up to 3 cm wide about as high as wide or somewhat lower; peduncle about as long as height of calyx; perradial notches between arms slightly deeper than the interradial; 30 to 60 (up to 100) tentacles on each arms; marginal anchors kidney shaped, with a short, cylindrical stalk, gonads to ends of arms, with follicles in 2 to 4 or 6 radial rows; subumbrella smooth.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
