Marine biodiversity and biosecurity, including the biology and distribution of marine invertebrates, with a particular focus on the biology, systematics and phylogeny of living and fossil marine Bryozoa, with applications to biosecurity, biotechnology and conservation, including fishing impacts on biogenic habitat, and research on alien bryozoans affecting human livelihoods and the role of recreational vessels in introducing alien species to New Zealand. Also biodiversity inventory/bioinformatics (all of life), and scoping of New Zealand’s total marine biodiversity (all kingdoms). Also scientific writing and science editing. From 16 October He shall be a retired emeritus researcher at NIWA, and classified as a Principal Scientist and Group Manager for Marine Biodiversity. He shall continue with bryozoan research and participate in some small research contracts. |
