Trindade Island is located at the eastern end of the Vitoria-Trindade submarine Ridge, 620 nautical miles (1160 km) off the coast of the State of Espirito Santo, south-eastern Brazil. It forms the most isolated insular group off the Brazilian coast, together with the Martim Vaz Archipelago which lies48 km east of Trindade. The island is volcanic in origin and was uplifted approximately 3 to 3.5 million years ago.It is 6 km long with an emergent landmass area of 9.28 km2. The narrow shallow platform is approximately 32 km2.

| Hydrography | The island is surrounded by calcareous algal reefs which are consistently present throughout the littoral zone. Occasional sandy patches are filled with lithothamnia cobbles. The substratum is colonized by hermatypic corals. |
