Definition of Term

prejuvenile
(English) Developmental stage immediately following acquisition of minimum fin ray complement of adult and before assumption of adult-like body form ; used only where strikingly different from juvenile (e.g. early juvenile stage of butterflyfishes, querimana stage of mullets, etc.). préjuvénile
(French) Stade de développement immédiatement suivante à l'acquisition de complément minimum du rayon de la nageoire d'adulte et avant la prise de la forme adulte ; utilisé seulement où la forme adulte est remarquablement différente de celle de juvénile (par exemple, stade juvénile précoce chez des poissons-papillons, stade 'querimana' chez des mulets, etc.).
