Diagnosis: Mollusca belonging to the burrowing aplacophoran taxon with cuticle entire (Caudofoveata or Chaetodermomorpha). Most are <5 mm in length, with divided oral shield, usually narrow tail-like posterium, pair of large cuticular jaws, and small radula with several rows of two mirror-image teeth and central plate. Geographic distribution: Common in deep-sea benthos of the world oceans from the continental shelf hadal depths in trenches, do not occur in polar regions (Ref. 1458). Comprised of 5 genera and 25 species (Ref. 1487). |
