It is found on rocky substrates, often in crevices, also on gorgonians from intertidal areas to a depth of 22 m. It prefers shaded habitats and it rarely falls dry. When strongly disturbed it expels acontia through its mouth opening (Ref. 87801). Solitary (Ref. 2377).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
