15 cm wide, flat and with rounded edges, well marked central concavity; 5 lappets in each octant, short and blunt; mouth-arms, about one and one-fourth times the length of bell radius, triangular in cross-section, aboral surface broad and flat, 10 to 15 alternate primary branches, with numerous large, ribbon shaped filaments.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
