Thinly encrusting: 0.1 - 1 cm thickness; dark brown to black in color. Surface with low conules: 0.1 cm high, few mm apart; and oscules bearing a collar-like membrane: 1 - 4 cm wide. Very soft in consistency (Ref. 415).
Maximum body Thickness: 1 cm (Ref. 415). Rare to common, on mangroves roots (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
