Found near the seabed (Ref. 1821). On sandy, muddy and sandy mud bottoms; continental shelf to continental slope in depth (Ref. 98678). Scaphopods are selective microcarnivores, feeding on microscopic organisms particularly forams. It also feeds on juvenile bivalves and kinorhynchs. Some species may be selective detritivores (Ref. 833).

Members of the class Scaphopoda are gonochoric. Fertilization occurs in the mantle cavity. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into free-swimming lecithotrophic trochophore larvae, succeeded by shelled veligers.
