(English) Museum für Naturkunde der Humboldt-Universität, Zoologisches Museum, Fischabteilung, Invalidenstrasse 43, D-10115 Berlin, Germany. Curator: Hans-Joachim Paepke. Collection: the collection is catalogued but not computerized. Loans are possible (except old and fragile types) and material can be studied in the collection. Size: about 100,000 specimens, including skeletons and otoliths. Types: about 1,700 species are represented by types. Parts 1 and 2 of the type catalogue are already published (see Paepke & Seegers 1986; Paepke & Schmidt 1988), parts 3 and 4 are in press. Special features: Red Sea, Atlantic Ocean (including North Sea and Baltic Sea), freshwater fishes of Central Europe, Africa (former German colonies), South America; material of M.E. Bloch (1723-1799), J. Müller, Wilhelm Peters, A. Brauer (partly), Hemprich & Ehrenberg, J.O. Schneider, E. Ahl, Richard Schomburgk, etc. Remarks: only a few types have been lost in the early 19th century and during the WW II. (See also: fish collection)

Bloch (1723-1799), J. Müller, Wilhelm Peters, A. Brauer (en partie), Hemprich & Ehrenberg, J.O. Schneider, E. Ahl, Richard Schomburgk, et autres.
