continental ocean
(English) Portion of ocean and marine floor overlying continental crust (e.g., andesite, granite); shallower than the ocean overlying oceanic crust (e.g., basalt); includes continental shelves, continental slopes and overlying waters. (See also: continental shelf, continental slope)
