Definition of Term

ebb tide
(English) Daily change in seawater level from high to low; out-flowing tide; the difference between high and low tide is determined by the phase of the moon, with extreme amplitudes two days after full moon and new moon; tidal change at which ocean water flows in an offshore direction and estuarine waters flow toward the ocean. (French) Variation quotidienne du niveau de l'eau de mer de niveau haut au niveau bas; flux de la marée vers l'extérieur; la différence entre haute et basse marée est déterminée par la phase de la lune, avec les amplitudes extrêmes deux jours après la lune pleine et la nouvelle lune; changement de la marée dont la direction du flux de l'eau de l'océan est vers le large et les eaux estuarines coulent vers l'océan.
