Definition of Term

principal caudal rays
(English) The caudal rays which reach the terminal border of the fin; in fishes with branched caudal rays, the count includes the branched rays plus the uppermost and the lowermost rays which are unbranched. (See also: caudal fin, fin rays, soft ray)

(French) Rayons caudaux qui s'étendent jusqu'à la pointe de la nageoire ; chez les poissons qui ont des rayons caudaux branchus, le compte des rayons inclut les rayons branchus, plus les rayons non branchus situés au-dessus et au-dessous des rayons branchus.
